Softball Recap: West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] Comes Up Short

West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it eight. They came up short against the Pleasant Hill Wolves, falling 16-0. If the Cougars were looking for revenge after losing 9-0 to the Wolves when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Pleasant Hill, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-3. Considering they have won seven contests by more than ten runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Pleasant Hill's part, Ava Wombles made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Wombles has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kaitlyn Borrowman was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Makenna Winchell was another key player, going 1-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] will be playing in front of their home fans against Brown County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pleasant Hill, they are taking a road trip to face off against Edwardsville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
