Basketball Recap: Elizabeth Cardinals vs. Sand Creek Scorpions
Even though the Elizabeth Cardinals have not done well against the Sand Creek Scorpions recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Elizabeth breezed by the Scorpions on the road to the tune of 56-26. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Elizabeth also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Elizabeth was led to victory by London Machado and Jordan Martinez. Machado scored 18 points along with two steals, while Martinez scored eight points along with 12 steals and seven assists. Martinez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Deb Flipse, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Elizabeth now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Sand Creek, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-16.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elizabeth will take on the Titans at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Classical Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully the Cardinals like a good challenge. As for Sand Creek, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Marauders at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Mitchell is ranked 321st, while the Scorpions are ranked 303rd).
