Baseball Recap: Water Valley Victorious

Water Valley took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Bruce, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Water Valley Blue Devils sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Bruce Trojans on Tuesday. For the Blue Devils, this counts as revenge for the 8-2 victory the Trojans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

The team relied heavily on Laine Burns, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Water Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

Water Valley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. Bruce's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Water Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against Bruce: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
