Paytan Sanders made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Karra Mae Johnson was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Larkin Conner was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, South Pontotoc made easy work of Vardaman on Monday and carried off an 18-1 victory. Considering the Cougars have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Blakelee Dollins, who fired off two home runs and eight RBI while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Preslee Austin, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.
South Pontotoc always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vardaman only posted an OBP of .286.
South Pontotoc has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. East Webster's victory bumped their record up to 12-8.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. East Webster hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. However, it's not like South Pontotoc struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
East Webster skirted past South Pontotoc 5-3 in their previous matchup back in February. Does East Webster have another victory up their sleeve, or will South Pontotoc turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
