Volleyball Game Preview: Oxford Academy Patriots vs. La Quinta Aztecs

Oxford Academy hasn't had much luck against La Quinta recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Oxford Academy Patriots will take on the La Quinta Aztecs at 3:15 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Oxford Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Hawthorne Math & Science Academy and fell 3-2.

Oxford Academy took Hawthorne Math & Science Academy into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking 14-point loss. The final score came out to 25-19, 21-25, 17-25, 25-21, 15-1.

Oxford Academy's defeat came about despite a quality game from Ayden Nguyen, who had 20 assists and six digs. The dominant performance gave Nguyen a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Andy Ha, who had 16 digs and one assist.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday La Quinta sidestepped Anaheim for a 3-2 victory.

Oxford Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for La Quinta, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Oxford Academy came up short against La Quinta in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 3-1. Can Oxford Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
