Thompson Valley was handed a nine-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Berthoud Spartans. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-4 last Thursday.

Thompson Valley got a great performance from Malachi Dougherty as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Dougherty has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Evan Raabe was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple and one run.

Thompson Valley's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Berthoud, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Thompson Valley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 18-6 win against Northridge on the 12th. As for Berthoud, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 7-4 victory against Eaton on the 2nd.
