Baseball Recap: Elkins Comes Up Short

If Elkins was feeling good fresh off their 7-1 takedown of Tygarts Valley on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers came up short against the Bridgeport Indians on Monday, falling 16-9. The Tigers were not able to make up for their loss to the Indians from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Elkins saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trent Stone, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Stone has become a key player for the Tigers: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-9 otherwise. Brayden Biller was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Elkins has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Bridgeport, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Elkins will venture away from home to take on Lewis County at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Bridgeport, they will take on Morgantown at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Indians 3.2, the Mohigans 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
