Basketball Recap: Springdale Prep Takes a Loss

Springdale Prep extended their losing streak to four on Sunday, dropping them down to 5-4. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 65-59 heartbreaker at the hands of the Oak City Prep Bears. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Lions came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 63rd in Maryland, while the Bears are ranked 243rd in North Carolina).

Despite the defeat, Springdale Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zing Yinpobil dropped a double-double with 28 points and 19 boards. Yinpobil has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 22 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrianna Jenkins, who posted 12 points.

As for Oak City Prep, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Oak City Prep got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sami Ward out in front who shot 54% from the field to rack up 17 points in addition to eight assists and seven boards. The dominant performance also gave Ward a new career-high in steals (seven). Another player making a difference was Dareka Goodwin, who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Springdale Prep has already played their next game, a 74-8 victory against KIPP College Prep on the 20th. As for Oak City Prep, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 36-33 loss against Winston Salem Christian on the 20th.
