Soccer Game Preview: Salesian vs. St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy

The Salesian Mustangs will challenge the St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Salesian's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Salesian fought the good fight in their overtime game against Bishop Amat on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 2-1. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 309th, while the Lancers are ranked 16th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy). Their defense stepped up to hand Entrepreneur a 9-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Warriors have won six contests by more than two goals this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy's victory bumped their record up to 9-6-2. As for Salesian, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10-1.

Everything went Salesian's way against St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2017, as Salesian made off with a 9-0 win.
