Volleyball Recap: Gibbon Buffaloes vs. Wood River Eagles

Gibbon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 18th straight loss. They fell 3-1 to the Wood River Eagles. If the Buffaloes were looking for revenge after losing 2-0 to the Eagles when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Brynn Baxter paced Gibbon's offense, picking up 12 kills. Baxter got some help from Claire Clark and her 19 assists. Clark was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Leading Wood River to victory were Tenley Gewecke and Berkley Strode. Gewecke had three digs and three aces, while Strode had 13 digs and one assist. The dominant performance also gave Gewecke a new career-high in assists (16). Rylee Codner also deserves some recognition as she served her first aces of the season.

Gibbon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-23. As for Wood River, their record is now 7-18.

Looking ahead, after both having extra time off, Gibbon and Centura will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Centurions will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Buffaloes surely won't give up without a fight. As for Wood River, they have already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against St. Paul on the 13th.
