Basketball Game Preview: New Caney Eagles vs. College Park Cavaliers

New Caney hasn't had much luck against College Park recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The New Caney Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the College Park Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m.

New Caney is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were dealt an 89-20 loss at the hands of Grand Oaks. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1168th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 163rd).

Ariel Obregon put forth a good effort for the losing side as she posted seven points.

Meanwhile, College Park posted their closest win since November 19th on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Willis, sneaking past 34-31.

College Park's win came from a few key players New Caney will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Katie Westwood, who scored 12 points and four steals. That's the most steals she has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Smith, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 10 points and three steals.

New Caney's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for College Park, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

New Caney was taken down by College Park 52-21 in their previous matchup back in February. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Smith, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Now that New Caney knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
