Player of the Week selections were made for the South, South Central, and West Region.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Three standout student-athletes earned this week's MaxPreps/NFCA Player of the Week honors. The trio garnered recognition for their outstanding play in games played February 28 - March 6.
South Region
McClain powered Providence Grove to three wins in its opening week of the season. The senior hit .900 (9-for-10) with two doubles, three home runs, 11 RBI and nine runs scored. She slugged 2.000 and recorded a .917 on-base percentage. Against Northern Guilford, McLain was 4-for-4 with both of those doubles a long ball and five RBI. In the season opener, she launched two round trippers, scored four times and drove in three runs against Southern Guilford. McClain capped off the week with three RBI versus Jordan-Matthews.
South Central Region
Over seven games, Morton hit .750 (12-for-16) with two doubles, three RBI and three home runs with 10 RBI and 13 runs scored. She slugged 1.812 and drew seven walks, which contributed to her .833 on-base percentage. Morton extended her hitting streak to 12 games, recording at least one base knock in each contest. The junior scored two runs and recorded at least one RBI in six of those victories. Morton homered twice and drove in five runs versus Jacksonville. She also homered against Carthage.
West Region
Wickum lifted Sutter to four wins with her arm and her bat last week. In the circle, she earned three wins, surrendering no runs, on just one hit with 40 strikeouts and three walks over 19 innings of work. Wickum twirled a pair of six-inning no-hitters against Lassen (15 K, BB) and Nevada Union (13 K, BB), along with a one-hit shutout of River Valley (12 K). At the plate, she hit .538 (7-for-13) with six doubles and eight RBI. Wickum registered a pair of three-RBI outings against Lassen and Nevada Union.
