The Spencer County Bears will face off against the Trimble County Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Spencer County's victory against Fairdale wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bears sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-11 win over the Bulldogs on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bears have posted since April 15, 2024.
Spencer County got a massive performance out of Kaylen Newton, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Joslyn Waldridge, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Spencer County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Trimble County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Carroll County 9-8.
Hannah Chilton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Savannah Oldson was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Alanna Washington was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Trimble County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Spencer County, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Spencer County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .484. However, it's not like Trimble County struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
