Football Recap: Surry Central Comes Up Short

Surry Central had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-9 to make it seven. They had to suffer through a 62-10 loss at the hands of the Mount Airy Granite Bears. The Golden Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-7.

Will Pardue threw for 36 yards and one TD. Travon Sawyers was his top target, picking up 26 receiving yards.

As for Mount Airy, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2. That looming 62-10 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

Taeshon Martin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 179 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries. He has become a key player for Mount Airy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Cashtyn Revels, who rushed for 83 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Mount Airy will challenge rival East Surry at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Martin and Nathan Kiger.
