Preview: Weddington Warriors vs. Marvin Ridge Mavericks
Weddington has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on The Marvin Ridge Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Weddington will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
Weddington stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 62-14 win over Cuthbertson. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-14.
Marvin Ridge fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They came out on top against Sun Valley by a score of 20-7 on Friday.
The critical scores for Marvin Ridge came from Jackson Gibbs, Hill Despard, and Cole Searight.
Weddington's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 7-2 Sun Valley and 7-2 Porter Ridge (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.1% over those games). As for Marvin Ridge, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Weddington beat Marvin Ridge 29-19 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Weddington since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
