Preview: Maiden Blue Devils vs. Lincolnton Wolves
Maiden is 7-2 against Lincolnton since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Maiden Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Lincolnton Wolves at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Maiden is ranked 143rd, while Lincolnton is ranked 122nd).
Last Friday, Maiden took a serious blow against Bunker Hill, falling 49-9. Maiden was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Meanwhile, Lincolnton had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They really took it to East Burke for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-14 victory at home. The result was nothing new for Lincolnton, who have now won three matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Lincolnton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Andre Bost out in front who rushed for 207 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.9 yards per carry, and also threw for 131 yards and a touchdown. Bost is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Treylen Bost was another key contributor, rushing for 112 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries.
Lincolnton's victory bumped their season record to 4-4 while Maiden's loss dropped theirs to 5-3.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Josh Stover and Bost. Stover has put up some stellar numbers this year, and currently owns excellent season averages of 187.8 passing yards and no passing touchdowns per game this season. For his part, Bost has averaged 130.8 passing yards and a passing touchdowns per game this season.
Everything went Maiden's way against Lincolnton in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as Maiden made off with a 35-13 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Maiden since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
