Softball Game Preview: Trumann Wildcats vs. Paragould Rams

The Trumann Wildcats will challenge the Paragould Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Trumann turned things around against Buffalo Island Central on Tuesday. They blew past the Mustangs 18-3. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Trumann let Brayli McGuire and Zauria Young run wild. McGuire went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Young went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Young a new career-high. Dalaney Osment was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Trumann always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

13 must be Paragould's lucky number: they beat Batesville with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Rams beat the Pioneers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-3. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won seven in a row.

Lexis Covington was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Brookelyn Key was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ava Perkins, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.

Trumann's win bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Paragould, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
