Baseball Game Preview: Desert Ridge Jaguars vs. Sunrise Mountain Mustangs

The Desert Ridge Jaguars will challenge the Sunrise Mountain Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Monday, Desert Ridge beat Highland 4-1.

Dylan Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kelton Floan, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Max Gamboa, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Sunrise Mountain waltzed into their match on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 13-0 shutout.

Bryce Madison was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Madison was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI.

In other batting news, Chase Heid was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. He has become a key player for Sunrise Mountain: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-9 otherwise. Brandon Newkirk was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.

Sunrise Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Desert Ridge's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-14. As for Sunrise Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 15-9.
