Baseball Recap: Villa Park Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Villa Park extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping their season record up to 16-5 in the process. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the El Modena Vanguards. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 7-2 victory on Wednesday.

Dominic Gutierrez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Young, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

As for El Modena, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for they, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-14.

On El Modena's side, Ryan Novajoski was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. What's more, Novajoski gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March.

Looking ahead, Villa Park will venture away from home to square off against Pacifica at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Spartans 2.5, the Mariners 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for El Modena, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, an 11-1 win against Orange on the 19th.
