Ionia came tearing into Monday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Pewamo-Westphalia Pirates get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-4 on Monday.

The result came thanks to Trevor Hodges's shutout, as he gave up just three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ionia secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Colt Piercefield, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Ionia's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Pewamo-Westphalia, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-14 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ionia will head out to face off against Lansing Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 3.7, the Cougars 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Pewamo-Westphalia, they will venture away from home to square off against Lansing Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
