Softball Recap: Glenbard West Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Willowbrook, Glenbard West was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They came out on top against the Lake Park Lancers by a score of 9-4. For the Hilltoppers, this counts as revenge for the 11-1 victory the Lancers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Olivia Salerno spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Megan Stieglitz, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-4. Alexa Trybus was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

Stieglitz wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Glenbard West lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Park only launched one home run.

Glenbard West has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Lake Park, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-2.

Looking ahead, Glenbard West will welcome Hinsdale South at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hilltoppers are facing the Hornets at the right time seeing as the Hornets are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Lake Park, they will take on Batavia at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
