Softball Game Preview: Union Preparatory Polar Bears vs. Queen's Grant Stallions

The Union Preparatory Polar Bears will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Queen's Grant Stallions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Union Preparatory easily dispatched Sugar Creek Charter back in March, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Polar Bears fell just short of Greater Cabarrus S by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Queen's Grant was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Monroe. Considering the Stallions have won 11 matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Alyssa Steele made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Steele was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nicole Strickland-Mitchell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lily Schott, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Queen's Grant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .917. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Union Preparatory's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Queen's Grant, their record is now 13-1.
