Preview: Wenonah Dragons vs. John Carroll Catholic Cavaliers
Two dominant signal callers in Anthony Young and Carson Daniel mcfadden are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Wenonah Dragons will head out on the road to face off against the John Carroll Catholic Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, Wenonah was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 31-27 to Fairfield.
Despite the loss, Wenonah had strong showings from Young, who rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and Dominic Bruce, who rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
John Carroll Catholic never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Jasper last Friday. They blew past the Vikings 35-12. Given John Carroll Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 64th, while Jasper is ranked 203rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The opposite results left the teams with opposite records: Fairfield's victory pushed their record up to 3-6, while Wenonah's loss dropped theirs down to 6-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Wenonah has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 215.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like John Carroll Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 156.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Wenonah and John Carroll Catholic were almost perfectly matched up in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, but Wenonah suffered an agonizing 13-12 loss. Can Wenonah avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
