Baseball Recap: Carlsbad Takes a Loss

Carlsbad fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against La Costa Canyon on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mavericks by a score of 2-1. The Lancers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mavericks earlier this season, when they won 6-1.

Hunter Dawson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Carlsbad saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Johnson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Carlsbad's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for La Costa Canyon, their record now sits at 11-8.
