Baseball Recap: Cheyenne Mountain Has No Trouble Against Durango

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cheyenne Mountain walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Durango Demons on Saturday as they made off with a 9-1 win. Considering the Red-Tailed Hawks have won eight matchups by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Javin Eslinger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits.

At the plate, Jansen Roberts was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs. Nate Glad was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Cheyenne Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April.

Cheyenne Mountain has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Durango, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-10.

Cheyenne Mountain will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Pueblo County at 11:30 a.m. The Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so the Red-Tailed Hawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Durango does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
