Softball Preview: McNary Celtics vs. Sprague Olympians
McNary is 9-1 against Sprague since April of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The McNary Celtics will be playing at home against the Sprague Olympians at 5:00 p.m. McNary will be strutting in after a win while Sprague will be coming in after a loss.
McNary's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Wednesday, when they got past South Salem's usually-dominant pitching crew. McNary never let South Salem onto the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for McNary.
Natalie Macik made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Macik was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Ali Martinez was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Aspynn Westby was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Sprague lost a heartbreaker to West Salem when they met back in May of 2023, and they left with a heavy heart again on Wednesday. Sprague fell 4-1 to West Salem. Sprague has not had much luck with West Salem recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Sprague saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Borzy, who went 1-for-3 with a triple.
McNary's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Sprague, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
McNary couldn't quite finish off Sprague in their previous matchup last Tuesday and fell 3-1. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sprague's Kaylee Lundeen, who struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk).
