Basketball Game Preview: Marion Swamp Foxes vs. North Augusta Yellow Jackets

The Marion Swamp Foxes will take on the North Augusta Yellow Jackets at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Marion comes in on three and North Augusta on 13.

Marion is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against Hunter-Kinard-Tyler last Monday as Marion made off with a 66-42 victory.

Jameir Legette and Jaden Gerald were among the main playmakers for Marion as the former dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards and the latter went 11 of 14 on his way to 24 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Legette a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Charles White Jr, who posted nine points.

Marion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely North Augusta's strategy against South Aiken on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that North Augusta blew South Aiken out of the water with a 62-21 final score. With the Yellow Jackets ahead 36-12 at the half, the game was all but over already.

North Augusta pushed their record up to 13-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Marion, their record now sits at 5-10.

Things could have been worse for Marion, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 68-53 loss to North Augusta in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Marion avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
