Softball Game Preview: Southwestern Heights Mustangs vs. Spearville Lancers

Southwestern Heights has won seven straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Spearville has won seven straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Mustangs will host the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Southwestern Heights is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kansas' top teams: Stanton County, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Southwestern Heights was ranked eighth). The Mustangs skirted past the Trojans 7-5. While the Mustangs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, Spearville made easy work of Plainville on Monday and carried off a 20-5 victory. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Faith Ackerman, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Morghyn Rucker, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Spearville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Southwestern Heights' win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Spearville, their victory bumped their record up to 8-0.
