Football Recap: Bluffton Victorious

With a playoff win on the line, Bluffton rose to the challenge on Friday. They won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Churubusco Eagles 39-38. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Bluffton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Axton Beste, who rushed for 56 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 253 yards and two TDs while completing 75% of his passes. Those 253 passing yards gave Beste a new career-high. Another rusher making a difference was Cooper Craig, who rushed for 102 yards and a pair of scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bluffton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 224 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 188 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.

Bluffton's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Churubusco, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-3.

Coming up, Bluffton will square off against Adams Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Flying Jets have now posted at least 31 points in their last five matchups. Churubusco does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
