Softball Recap: Hardin-Jefferson Triumphs

Hardin-Jefferson hadn't done well against Hamshire-Fannett recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Hawks came out on top against the Longhorns by a score of 6-1. This was a revenge game for the Hawks: when they faced off against the Longhorns back in March, they had to take a 12-3 defeat.

Olivia Lawson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

The victory made it two in a row for Hardin-Jefferson and bumps their season record up to 9-16. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Hamshire-Fannett, they dropped their record down to 14-15-2 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Hardin-Jefferson and Hamshire-Fannett could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Hawks (ranked 480th) will meet Liberty (ranked ninth) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hamshire-Fannett will take on Shepherd at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (241 vs. 119).
