The Putnam City Pirates will challenge the Grant Generals at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Putnam City has five straight wins, Grant has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Putnam City's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They breezed past Eisenhower to the tune of 64-0. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 42 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Schuylar Turnbull, who threw for 210 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also punched in one rushing score. Putnam City's leading receiver Savion James was Turnbull's top target yet again, picking up 85 receiving yards and two scores.
Putnam City didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Eisenhower to a completion percentage of just 18.8%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from four players: Shaun Brown, Keandre Huffman, Jarius Polly, and Cameron Sanders, who each logged one passes deflected. Putnam City has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.65 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.65 in their last three games.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 76-6, which was the final score in Grant's tilt against Piedmont on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Generals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while the Wildcats are ranked 46th).
Grant's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Putnam City, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
Everything came up roses for Putnam City against Grant in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 56-6 win. In that contest, the Pirates amassed a halftime lead of 36-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
