Preview: Penasco Panthers vs. Pecos Panthers
Penasco and Pecos are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but not for long. The Penasco Panthers will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Pecos Panthers at 5:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Penasco is ranked 59th, while Pecos is ranked 48th).
Penasco struggled with threes on Saturday (Los Alamos had five more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Penasco took a hard 60-44 fall against Los Alamos. Penasco has struggled against Los Alamos recently, as their match on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Penasco had strong showings from Analise MacAuley, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Rochelle Lopez, who scored 17 points. Lopez hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Alyssa Atencio was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Meanwhile, Pecos entered their tilt with Mesa Vista with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Pecos snuck past Mesa Vista with a 50-45 victory on Wednesday.
Penasco dropped their record down to 8-7 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Pecos, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
Penasco couldn't quite finish off Pecos when the teams last played on January 6th and fell 68-66. Can Penasco avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
