Brains and brawn. Plus a whole lot of heart.

Last fall the Pioneer Press reported that DeLaSalle (Minneapolis) two-sport star Reid Travis would not be playing football, in an effort to concentrate on basketball.

As a junior at DeLaSalle, Travis, a 6-foot-8, 220 pound dual-threat quarterback threw for 1,435 yards and 15 touchdowns while running for over 500 yards and 10 more TDs.

According to the Pioneer Press, Boston College, Iowa, Minnesota and Rutgers had extended offers for football.

Travis, a 2014 McDonald's All-American, used his brains to make this decision and will be using that complex organ a lot at Stanford University. Last November, Travis announced his choice to play basketball for the Cardinal over the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.

During the 2012-13 basketball season, Travis averaged 27.4 points per game for the undefeated Class 3A state champions and No. 22 ranked team according to the MaxPreps Xcellent 25.



247Sports ranks Travis as the No. 36 overall recruit in the 2014 class. He earned second team Junior All-American honors from MaxPreps and shared state Player of the Year honors with Apple Valley point guard, AAU teammate and fellow McDonald's All-American selection Tyus Jones.

As reported by Amelia Rayno of the StarTribune, the decision to attend Stanford for basketball was done with his heart and mind.

"I wanted to give my parents the opportunity to say they have a son at Harvard and a son at Stanford," Travis told the StarTribune, referring to his brother, Jonah Travis, who plays for the Crimson. "That's an opportunity that not every parent can say."

This season the Islanders went 13-0 in the Tri-Metro while beating Brooklyn Center (Minn.) in the league championship game. Tomorrow night they play St. Anthony Village (Minneapolis) in the first round of the sectional tournament as they seek their 20th state title in school history.
