Football Recap: Pecos Skates Past Kermit with Ease

Pecos was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Kermit on Friday. The Eagles took their contest with ease, bagging a 41-13 victory over the Yellow Jackets. The Eagles not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since August 30, 2024 (when they won 41-7).

Pecos' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Michael Garcia, who rushed for 30 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 106 yards and one TD while completing 71.4% of his passes.

Pecos didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Kermit to a completion percentage of just 40.9%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Kai Salgado and Mateo Fernandez, who each logged one passes deflected. Given Garcia's standout performance, it's clear Kermit's secondary just wasn't on the same level.

Pecos didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Fernandez, Jordan Morales, and Amare Griffin picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Kermit's side was Ziggy Hinojoz, who picked up a sack and made five total tackles (4.0 for loss).

The win got Pecos back to even at 2-2. As for Kermit, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pecos will host Greenwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Rangers have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Kermit, they will face off against Van Horn at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
