Baseball Recap: Corinth Takes a Loss

Corinth and Hadley Luzerne pushed the score to 14-7 the last time they played Hadley Luzerne, but on Monday defenses reigned supreme. The Riverhawks fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Riverhawks couldn't push the score so high this time.

Edward Maguire spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Corinth's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't).

Corinth moved to 4-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Hadley Luzerne, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-3-1.

Looking ahead, Corinth will challenge Granville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Horde's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Riverhawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Hadley Luzerne, they will square off against Warrensburg at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Burgers have averaged an impressive 11.1 runs per game this season.
