Baseball Recap: Abilene Comes Up Short

Abilene extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 13-9. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wylie Bulldogs. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 13, 2025, but that streak is no more.

As for Wylie, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For Wylie's part, Colby Garrett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits. Garrett has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Myles McCarty, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Tomlin, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Abilene will venture away from home to face off against Monterey at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Plainsmen have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Wylie, they will head out on the road to square off against Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
