Baseball Game Preview: Taravella Trojans vs. Stoneman Douglas Eagles

For the second straight game, Taravella will face off against Stoneman Douglas. The Trojans are taking a road trip to challenge the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Taravella heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Wednesday. They came up short against Stoneman Douglas, falling 12-2. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

For Stoneman Douglas' part, Gio Rojas made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Rojas has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Nick Diaz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Bennett Gary, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.

The victory (which was Stoneman Douglas' ninth in a row) raised their record to 26-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Taravella, their loss dropped their record down to 17-12.
