Basketball Game Preview: Marietta Blue Devils vs. Etowah Eagles

Two dominant guards in Leah DeWitt and Savannah Aparicio are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Marietta Blue Devils and the Etowah Eagles will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. Marietta is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.5 points per game this season.

On Thursday, Marietta lost to North Paulding on the road by a 70-51 margin. The defeat continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Wolfpack: they've now lost nine in a row.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kyann Senior, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was DeWitt, who posted 14 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Marietta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Etowah suffered their biggest loss since January 30, 2024 on Thursday. They were beaten by Cherokee 54-21. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Eagles' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Etowah's defeat dropped their record down to 19-8. As for Marietta, their loss dropped their record down to 15-12.

Marietta came out on top in a nail-biter against Etowah when the teams last played last Tuesday, sneaking past 39-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marietta since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
