Softball Recap: Martin County Comes Up Short

Martin County had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 7-12 to make it five. They came up short against the Johnson Central Golden Eagles, falling 17-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 back in April.

As for Johnson Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-16 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.

For Johnson Central's part, Bella Bowen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Bowen has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Josie Dials was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Molly Music was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Looking ahead, Martin County will host Magoffin County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Johnson Central, they are taking a road trip to face off against Perry County Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
