Baseball Recap: Lakewood Takes a Loss

Lakewood extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-9 in the process. They came up short against the Arvada West Wildcats, falling 10-4. If the Tigers were looking for revenge after losing 11-6 to the Wildcats when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Lakewood saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was CJ Mahoney, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Bert Myers also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Arvada West, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

On Arvada West's side, Kolten DeGroot tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave DeGroot a new career-high.

At the plate, Levi Lueck was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Vais, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Arvada West beat Lakewood by a score of 9-0 on Tuesday.
