Basketball Recap: Hughes Lions vs. Riverside Panthers
After flying high against Adamsville last Monday, Hughes came back down to earth. The Hughes Lions took a 62-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Riverside Panthers. The match was a 26-26 toss-up at halftime, but the Lions couldn't quite close it out.
Riverside was led to victory by Jack Cupples and Austin Shelton. Cupples dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds, while Shelton went 6 of 12 on his way to 18 points. Those 18 points gave Shelton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Lunsford, who posted six points.
Hughes has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season. As for Riverside, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season.
A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Hughes Lions face off against the Wayne County Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
