Basketball Recap: Hughes Takes a Loss

After flying high against Adamsville last Monday, Hughes came back down to earth. The Hughes Lions took a 62-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Riverside Panthers. The match was a 26-26 toss-up at halftime, but the Lions couldn't quite close it out.

Riverside was led to victory by Jack Cupples and Austin Shelton. Cupples dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds, while Shelton went 6 of 12 on his way to 18 points. Those 18 points gave Shelton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Lunsford, who posted six points.

Hughes has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season. As for Riverside, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Hughes Lions face off against the Wayne County Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wayne County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.2 points per game this season. As for Riverside, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Chester County at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
