Volleyball Recap: St. Mary's Academy Wildcats vs. Peak to Peak Pumas
After flying high against D'Evelyn last Tuesday, St. Mary's Academy came back down to earth. The St. Mary's Academy Wildcats fell just short of the Peak to Peak Pumas by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pumas apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2023.
St. Mary's Academy actually scored more points across those five sets (108-99), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-25, 15-11.
Despite the defeat, St. Mary's Academy saw an underclassman step up: Al Hernandez had 16 digs. Those 16 digs set a new season-high mark for Hernandez.
Even though they lost, St. Mary's Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least nine aces in five consecutive games.
Lhadze Olsen had an outrageously good game for Peak to Peak as she had 18 digs.
St. Mary's Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Peak to Peak, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-4.
St. Mary's Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-2 victory against Prospect Ridge Academy on the 2nd. Peak to Peak has also already played their next matchup, a 3-2 win against Kent Denver on the 1st.
