Baseball Game Preview: Vista Ridge Wolves vs. Doherty Spartans

The Vista Ridge Wolves will challenge the Doherty Spartans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Vista Ridge blew Rampart out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Rampart got their revenge. The Wolves fell just short of the Rams by a score of 2-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Wolves were not able to get on the board.

Liam Schneider was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those two earned runs gave him a new career-low.

On the hitting side, Vista Ridge saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Giles-Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Pine Creek hit Doherty with a five-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans came up short against the Eagles, falling 12-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost nine in a row.

Brody Noll was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. He has become a key player for Doherty: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-9 otherwise.

Doherty's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Vista Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-16.
