Softball Game Preview: Atlantic Shores Christian Seahawks vs. Peninsula Catholic Knights

The Atlantic Shores Christian Seahawks will venture away from home to challenge the Peninsula Catholic Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Atlantic Shores Christian came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 15-5 to Tallwood.

Olivia Edenfield was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Berry, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Peninsula Catholic had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Warriors. While the Knights didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Quinn Freakley made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Freakley wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Autumn Baker, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Peninsula Catholic's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Atlantic Shores Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Atlantic Shores Christian skirted past Peninsula Catholic 9-8 when the teams last played last Thursday. The rematch might be a little tougher for Atlantic Shores Christian since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
