League recap: West Point tops New Hope to extend winning streak

West Point extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 1 this week by beating New Hope, 38-7. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Green Wave.

West Point took down the Trojans 38-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Hunter Ivie made the biggest impact on defense this week as Center Hill bested Hernando. The 6-foot-0 defensive lineman racked up one sack.

D'marius Gillespie was the best wideout in the league this week as the Mustangs topped the Tigers. Gillespie tallied three receptions for 64 yards. Curderion Hampton helped Center Hill's passing attack out by catching two balls for 42 yards.

Jacob Marsh provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Center Hill defeated Hernando. He completed eight passes for 121 yards and also ran for 31 yards.

AJ Hunt put up the best numbers through the air as Saltillo bested Lake Cormorant. He finished with a total of two completions for 47 yards and one touchdown. Hunt's favorite target this week was Hunt, who caught two passes for 44 yards.

Kaelin Thomas was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 95 yards on 19 carries as Alan Peacock's team beat Anthony Jenkins' team. Teammate Hampton added to the ground attack by rushing for 50 yards.

6-foot-5 quarterback Parker Adamson of Oxford is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1870. He has also thrown 15 touchdowns. On the ground, the Tigers' Andrew Soper has rushed for 973 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Hunt. The Saltillo star has 30 catches for 818 yards.

The Chargers' Adamson is within 130 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Provine.

Saltillo's Soper is a mere 27 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.

The Mustangs and the Tigers played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Mustangs eventually emerging with a 10-7 victory. Thomas in the win.
