With a playoff win on the line, Hendrickson rose to the challenge on Saturday. They never let the Bastrop Bears get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. Considering the Hawks have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Kara Luongo was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Payton Shroyer was excellent, going 4-for-5 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Zoey Kellam was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Hendrickson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bastrop only managed three hits.
The victory made it two in a row for Hendrickson and bumps their season record up to 15-11-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Bastrop, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-9-2.
Looking ahead, Hendrickson will square off against Victoria East at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bastrop does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
