Centralia took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Collinsville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Orphans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Kahoks on Monday. This was payback for the Orphans, who suffered an 8-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Archie Goewey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Centralia saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Houser, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Centralia's win bumped their record up to 15-11. As for Collinsville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-17 record this season.

Centralia will take on Freeburg at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Midgets will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Collinsville, they will square off against Belleville East at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Kahoks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
