Softball Recap: Broad Run Takes a Loss

Broad Run entered their matchup against Independence on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Spartans lost 8-2 to Independence.

Anna Weltens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Annie Market was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-2.

Broad Run's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Independence, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Coming up, Broad Run will take on Rock Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Phoenix have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.57 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Independence, they will be playing at home against Freedom at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
