The Barker Bulldogs will face off against the Wilson Lakemen at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Barker is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
While Barker's victory against Newfane wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 2-0 shutout on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since May 10, 2024.
The result came thanks to Peyton Bradley's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Wilson earned a 10-7 victory over Akron on Wednesday. The Lakemen haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Riley Robinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Wilson let Rowan Simpson and Abbie Faery run wild. Simpson got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Faery got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Simpson has posted since back in May of 2024. Mackenzie Hardy was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Barker has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Wilson, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Barker has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wilson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Barker took their victory against Wilson in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-3 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Lakemen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
