Softball Recap: Racine Lutheran's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Racine Lutheran dropped their record down to 8-2 on Saturday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Racine Case Eagles by a score of 5-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Crusaders of the 7-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Iyana Garza was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two triples and two runs.

Garza wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Adeline Gasau, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Gasau has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

As for Racine Case, they now have a winning record of 4-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for they.

Like Racine Lutheran, Racine Case also got a great game from a two-way player: Nora Lowney. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Lowney was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on McKynna Szymandera, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Racine Lutheran will welcome Catholic Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crusaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hilltoppers have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for Racine Case, they will head out to square off against Kenosha Bradford at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
